quartz glass,
a clear, vitreous solid, or glass, produced by fusion of a very pure form of quartz or rock crystal; fused quartz or silica; silica glass. Quartz glass is able to withstand large and rapid temperature changes and is specially transparent to the infrared, visible, and ultraviolet radiations. It is chiefly used in electronic and optica apparatus and equipment, such as vacuum tubes, insulating material, fluorescent and germicidal lamps.
